What is Acupuncture?

Acupuncture with a trained and fully qualified practitioner is one of the safest and longest established forms of healthcare. It is suitable for people of all ages, including pregnant women and also children, and can be used effectively alongside conventional medicine.

Acupuncture helps maintain the body’s equilibrium through insertion of very fine, sterile needles into specific points that regulate the flow of ‘Qi’ (your body’s vital energy). When Qi becomes blocked or depleted, symptoms of pain or illness can arise.

Acupuncture takes a holistic approach to health and considers illness as a sign that the body is out of balance. The exact pattern and degree of imbalance is unique to each individual. All acupuncture treatments are therefore unique and tailored specifically to each person.

This natural approach to health and wellbeing is effective for a wide range of conditions including physical, emotional and mental health. The focus is on improving overall wellbeing as well as treating specific conditions and symptoms. Acupuncture can also be used as a preventive measure to strengthen the constitution and promote general wellbeing.

What to Expect

After taking a detailed and comprehensive history of your main health complaints, medical history and lifestyle, Alison will devise an individual treatment plan, tailored to your specific requirements. You may also be offered lifestyle and dietary advice to support your treatment.
